Art
Benjamin Franklin High School of Finance and Information Technology is a well-rounded school, not just for technology but for students who are trying to get into their own creative endeavors. This year we had a digital graphic design class where the students learned the Adobe suite. As well as a visual arts class that focused on expanding the students knowledge of the art elements and principles of design through different art mediums and careers. Students learned how to plan, research, collaborate, and prepare a portfolio that can be used for college submissions. Examples of mediums we explored are drawing with colored pencil and graphite pencil, painting with acrylic paint and watercolor, sculpting with air dry clay, and printmaking with linoleum blocks. All the work the students culminated throughout the year was presented at our schools first ever Art exhibition that from now on will be held annually. Students had opportunities to travel to art museums to view and analyze famous and contemporary artworks in history. We also have an after school program called the Creative Colors club, where it is an inclusive club that practices the ideas of what makes an artist, and how it is important to have those support systems in the art field. As well as those students took their own art making skills and put it to the test by painting the schools first student mural in the hallway.
