About

Bronx Theatre High School offers students the opportunity to earn a Regents diploma with an arts endorsement by adopting the model of a theater company. Our students stage plays, musicals, and their own original works to explore the universal themes of human experience and acquire skills and knowledge to meet the learning standards as artist-at-work. Our program provides the college and career readiness skills for students to succeed in any post-secondary setting. We offer our students College Now classes in collaboration with Lehman College. We also offer our students A.P. classes, PSAL, NHS, dance opportunities and a myriad of student-facilitated clubs..

Bronx Theatre High School's mission is to build the capacity of students and educators through a supportive and comprehensive approach to learning that uses theatre to cultivate self-expression, confidence, and build skills like project management and leadership. Bronx Theatre High School was established in collaboration with Roundabout Theatre Company in 2003. Highlights of the partnership include trips to Roundabout productions, culturally responsive classroom residencies in core subject areas, and professional workshops for students and educators. Our Theatre Department offers courses in performance, costume and technical design. Students collaborate with peers, teachers and professional teaching artists to produce plays that include productions that are written, directed and performed by our students. Additionally, we offer in-class residencies to all of our students through English Language Arts, math and history classes. Teaching-artists and content area teachers align the New York City Department of Education Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and the Common Core Standards to create engaging, culturally responsive and thematically based units of study that are delivered in the classroom. Each residency consists of a collaboration of lesson planning between a content area teacher and a teaching-artist. The in-class residencies are followed by a Roundabout Broadway production and actor talk-back after the performance.
