Art
This year, we are excited to expand our arts programming. In our visual arts studio, students will follow the New York City Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. They will have the opportunity to create visual art using various materials and processes, such as graphite, collage, oil crayon, and paint-stick. Additionally, we will be introducing digital art, providing an introduction to graphic design using Illustrator and Photoshop. Students will learn to manipulate layers, shapes, and text to create graphic art. Furthermore, our new Living Environment teacher, who is also a trained architect, will be teaching a section on architecture. In this section, students will use 3-D computer modeling tools (Rhino 7) to design structures, furniture, and more. In all of the classes mentioned, students will engage in problem-solving, give and receive feedback, reflect on the process, and participate in informal and formal critiques. We are also excited to offer an Advanced Placement Art History course, which is open to sophomores through seniors. This course covers a general survey of world art history from prehistory to contemporary and prepares students to sit for the Advanced Placement Art History Exam, allowing them to earn college credit. With over three different art courses now being offered, we plan to have our students who have completed three consecutive years of art take the NYC Arts Commencement Assessment in Visual Arts.
