Our school is the best-kept secret in the Bronx. We have taken the small school feeling and combined it with the variety of courses, academies, diverse student body, and world-class facilities that you can only get in a large high school environment. Our students take core academic courses and commit to one of six career and honor academy. Students get the opportunity to earn a AP Capstone Diploma and at least 16 Free College Credits. Our 12th graders earn millions of dollars in scholarships every year to attend universities. Our students receive intensive support and preparation for SAT, Regents and AP Exams. Our students also get opportunities to attend Local and International Educational Trips to museums, Broadway Shows, Camping, Italy, SixFlags etc. Students showcase their talents at competitions such as Culinary, Moot Court, Robotics and Sports, and shows such as Arts, Culture Day and Concerts. Vibrant Parent Association which includes SLT, Paint and Bingo Night, Yoga and Family Day. Students ask: "Why would I go anywhere else?" Our arts academy at Harry S. Truman High School allows our students the opportunity to explore their creative side while still taking challenging and rigorous courses. We offer all levels of band, concert band, jazz band, choir, modern dance, graphic design, digital photography, drawing, painting, ceramics, theater, Advanced Placement Studio Art: Drawing, and Advanced Placement Studio Art: 2D Design. Our band, dance and theater students have the opportunity to perform live in our 1200 seat auditorium several times each school year. Our visual and graphic arts students have their work displayed throughout the building as well as having their work exhibited in our yearly visual arts show. Our media program focuses on teaching students how individuals communicate in a digital world. The program focuses on video production as it has become pervasive in our everyday lives. Students will learn the fundamentals of production and writing for a variety of audiences. Students will learn basic scriptwriting, journalism and interviewing skills. They will also learn how to build a basic website portfolio. Students produce commercials, public service announcements, short films, music videos, news packages and full news broadcasts. Students also participate in scholarship video competitions and professional training workshops each. Our motto is "Creating what we love and loving what we create!"

Law and Legal Studies/Law Enforcement(X25B)
Law & Government

The Law and Legal Studies program prepares students for a legal career by providing in-depth content on criminal and civil law, criminology, Constitutional law, and policing and reform movements, while developing students’ research, writing and presentation skills for college and beyond. Classes also involve realistic role playing as attorneys and witnesses in our own state of the art courtroom, conducting hearings, engaging in plea bargain negotiations, or conducting trials. Our students compete in the city, state, national and international mock trial, moot court and civics competitions. Students take advantage of frequent contacts with Federal and State court judges and personnel, summer internships, and our special partnership with Georgetown University Law School that guides and mentors students interested in becoming attorneys all the way through college. Whether your plans are to enroll in a four-year university or a law enforcement or legal training program this Academy provides students with the academic background and workplace exposure needed for success.
