Our school is a CareerReadyNYC and FutureReadyNYC school offering the best of college and career exploration and preparation in our Art & Design, Health Sciences, Hospitality & Tourism, Criminalistics & Forensics, Robotics & IT, and Software Engineering career-based academies. Students have the opportunity to explore a range of careers, acquire 21st century employability skills, including financial literacy, and become work ready through our career-connected learning classrooms and numerous paid apprenticeship and internship opportunities. Students also earn early college credits through our 10 university partnerships and AP courses, engage in 1-1 postsecondary advising, and graduate prepared for college and/or careers. We are part of the Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA) pilot, which helps us support career readiness for all our students. We have courses that help our ninth and tenth graders explore their career interests and develop readiness skills. Our students can apply for apprenticeships in tech, finance, and business, which allows them to earn and learn while in high school.

Art

Richmond Hill H.S. explores the arts through a variety of studio and theory-based classes. Visual arts classes explore all levels of drawing, painting, sculpture, graphic design, and photography, providing students with high-level art skills and exposure to the tools that designers and fine artists use in the professional world. Our new state-of-the-art Digital Music Production course sequence prepares students for hands-on careers in audio engineering and composition. Richmond Hill's artist-in-residence cultural partnership provides direct instruction from a professional working artist, exposing many students to careers in the arts. Students have the opportunity to earn several college credits through partnerships with CUNY York, SUNY Farmingdale, and Molloy Colleges. The Academy of Media, Art, and Design concentration allows students to take three full years of art in preparation for the NYC Comprehensive Exam in Visual Arts and build a professional portfolio that can serve in the college application process. Many Academy students go on to earn a Regents Endorsed Diploma with Advanced Designation in the Arts and a special Certificate of Arts Achievement upon graduation. Artists at RHHS exhibit their work at our annual Arts Fair or as winners of citywide contests. Students have had their artwork displayed throughout NYC, including The Queens Museum of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and private corporate offices.

The Academy of Hospitality & Tourism helps students chart career paths in one of the world’s largest industries, from hotel management and event planning to sports and entertainment. Students engage in multiple courses focused on career exploration. This is a New York State approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) program that strengthens literacy, personal finance, leadership, project management and team building skills. Students learn all aspects of what it is like to work in the real world through job-shadows, internships, guest speakers and other work-based learning experiences. Students can earn NOCTI Food and Beverage Certification
