About

Pan American International High School is a diverse learning community of recently immigrated English Language Learners (ELLs). Our primary focus is English language development, while providing opportunities for students to enhance their Spanish language skills. Our partnerships with organizations such as The International Network, Coalition for Hispanic Family, an other Higher Education entities cultivate the leadership of students in their communities through service, learning projects, internships, and the arts. We are committed to creating an environment that celebrates students' individual identities while preparing them to be successful in college and become productive members of the global community. We are part of the Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA) pilot, which helps us support career readiness for all our students. We have courses that help our ninth and tenth graders explore their career interests and develop readiness skills. Our students can apply for apprenticeships in tech, finance, and business, which allows them to earn and learn while in high school.

Art
PAIHS has an interdisciplinary, standards-aligned arts program that priorities SEL, equity, literacy building, and mastery based instruction in the arts. Our students' work continues to receive honors in competitions and shows across the city and is celebrated in our annual theatre productions and Visual & Performing Arts Showcase. Our curriculum offerings included guitar, band, theatre, digital photography, web design and 3D printing, studio art, drawing & painting, advanced art electives and college level offerings through Touro University. This year, our students also wrote and performed an original musical in partnership with the Kimberly Akimbo 'The Great Adventure' Grant and The NY Hall of Science. The Coalition for Hispanic Family Services expanded our offerings through the Community School funds to include rehearsals for Orgullo Indigena (our Ecuadorian Student Dance Group), drumming workshops and performances, arts related field trips for families, photography after-school classes, and dance instruction in partnership with the Matthew Westerby Dance Company. PAIHS believes that students benefit from a breadth of arts experiences to engage them in learning and prepare them for related careers and higher education. We are committed to expanding our offerings to include more educational and extracurricular opportunities for our community members, seeking new and ongoing partnerships to fund artist residencies, student trips, dedicated arts spaces, and provide materials and technology to support their creativity.
