We are a small, innovative learning community with a focus on comprehensive education while inspiring and nurturing leadership for peace and justice. As a NYS Performance Standards Consortium schools, our curriculum and program is designed to create an intellectual and challenging environment where every student thrives. Our project-based curriculum prepares students to be active and independent thinkers who share a passion for transforming communities and the world. Our trimester system allows students to complete most of their high school credits by 11th grade, leaving opportunities for focused work on their graduation portfolio assessment, accredited college opportunities, research, financial aid workshops, tours, and internships.

Art
The arts program at El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice centers interdisciplinary approaches to art making while examining themes of identity, community, and social justice all while building and advancing student's technical art skills. El Puente Academy's visual arts program is largely broken down into two courses: Sankofa Art for 9th and 10th grade students and Art as Liberation for 11th and 12th grade students. In the Sankofa Art, students explore their own roots, traditions and histories as well as those of a diverse group of cultures to get a better understanding of the rich variety of human experience. In the Art as Liberation course, students explore creating works of visual art that reflect their views on social & political issues and participate in events and actions connected to movements for peace and justice. El Puente's arts program also consists of many opportunities for students to showcase their talents and hard work during our schoolwide arts days, through either a student-led workshop or a performance on the main stage. Los Muralistas de El Puente is another big part of the culture at EPA and consists of student-led researching, designing and painting large scale murals both for school events and in the community. Our continued goal is to provide arts programming that is rooted in our school's principles and connected to the community. This upcoming year our goal is to continue to provide new opportunities to our students through more community partnerships with teaching artists and organizations.
