Hillcrest is a Career and Tech Ed (CTE) and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) focused school. We proudly offer students a world-class education with a dynamic faculty and challenging curriculum. We have four NYS approved CTE programs to help our students prepare for college and career. Our CTE programs include: Certified Nursing Assistant, Computer Assisted Design, Software Engineering, and Virtual Enterprise (entrepreneurship). Our students get the benefits of a small school setting with our seven Small Learning Communities (SLC) in a large comprehensive high school. Every SLC is run by one teacher-leader, one school counselor, an administrator and teachers who use rigorous instruction to ensure student success. Each SLC has connections to the professional world with various partnerships and internships with elite organizations in NYC. Program Details
CTE endorsement- 54 WBL hours- Completed Senior Project, Passing industry Exam- NOCTI NYS CTE Certified Nursing Assistant program that includes supervised clinical rotations with training from registered nurses and a developing Sports Medicine program with courses such as Exercise Physiology, Human Anatomy, and Nutrition. Students participate in the Health Professions Club and receive paid and unpaid internships in the health field and volunteer experience. 9th Grade: Introduction to Healthcare, Introduction to Robotics; 10th Grade: Introduction to Health Core- Health Occupations Education Core to prepare you for a career in healthcare. Each model has an overview which identifies the goals of that module, describes the content to be covered and lists the skills, knowledge and behaviors that the student will achieve. Written Business and Financial Communications - Introduction to business and computer applications, Introduction to Engineering/Introduction to Computer Aided Design: A course which blends hands-on projects with introduction to Computer Aided. Using TinkerCAD students will design a series of class projects and then construct and test these projects in fun competitions. The students will then learn to use 2D and 2.5D software (V-Carve, Aspire and Engravelab) packages to design signs and other projects using CNC Milling machines and Laser Cutter/Engravers. Intro to software engineering- Learning basics of computing, programming using SNAP is a block dragon drop programming.to understand the flow of a program and Python-Text based programming language. 11th Grade: Intro Nursing Assistant- Introduces students to theory, anatomy & physiology for the nurse assistant by using observations, critical reading and writing to discover and support ideas and understanding of the role of the nurse assistant. Students learn to organize nursing notes, to use suitable patterns of development of skills and practical studies in nursing, to support ideas clearly, and to edit for grade-level style. Entrepreneurship and Marketing- Learning Business Concepts and how to start an online business Design ¾ Introduction to Autodesk Inventor/Intermediate Autodesk Inventor This is the second course in the sequence and will be where the CAD NOCTI/Precision Exam will be administered. The course focuses on the creation of 2D and 3D Design and Drawing of models, parts and assemblies. This includes part constraints and interactions. This is a complete coverage of the CAD NOCTI Exam areas of Interpreting and Reading Blueprints, Create and Manipulate Mechanical Drawing Information, Draw and Design Assemblies, and Using 3D Modeling. This is 82% of the NOCTI Exam. The other 18% is now used consistently during the course and will also be reviewed before the exam 11th Grade- Web development HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT and Python with Flask. Web development- your developing web application 12th Grade Certified Nursing Assistant- Clinical - The course of specialization comprises entry level skills, related anatomy and physiology and frequently seen abnormal conditions, It is designed to prepare students to render care in a variety of health care facilities as a nurse’s assistant. The program builds on skills and theory acquired through the HOE Core. The aging process is addressed through structure and function of the human body, as well as related skills. In conjunction with a supervised clinical experience, this course prepares efficient, caring members of the health care team. Emphasis should be placed on the long term when planning clinical assignments. Virtual Enterprise- Set up an ECommerce Business that competes in a virtual market place and business competitions Advanced Autodesk Inventor and Complete Project Management This is the third course in the sequence and is focused on the senior design project. The course focuses on the honing of the students CAD capabilities, project management skills and the creation of 3D Designs. In this senior level course students will put their knowledge of CAD to use by defining, designing and producing products of their own design for use within the school. 12th Grade- JAVA applications- program using JAVA and Senior Project They take AP Computer Science A -JAVA
