Art
The High School for Arts and Business has a highly developed visual arts program that has a ten-credit visual arts sequence for both fine arts and graphic design, which culminates in a Chancellor's Endorsed Advanced Regents Diploma. We have an approved Career and Technical Education sequence for Graphic Design. This encompasses certification examinations in ADOBE Photoshop and Illustrator. The course offerings are: Studio Art, Foundational Drawing, 3-D Design, Computer Graphics, Advanced ADOBE Computer Graphics, Painting, Portfolio, and Commercial Design. We also offer Advanced Placement in Art History. Our program offers internships from several partnerships including the Center for Arts Education and The Queens Museum. Most of our art students have completed our ten-credit sequence and have attained the Chancellors Endorsed Arts Diploma. The Music Department offers beginning and advanced band, beginning and advanced chorus as well as Guitar 1 and 2. Our school has a full concert band setup featuring woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Our concert bands competes at the Music in the Park competition and were awarded second and third place finishes in the past two competitions. We have partnerships with the Oratorio Society at Carnegie Hall and The Orchestra of St. Lukes. Our students are awarded yearly New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) certification. We have dance instruction and a full dance studio where students choreograph dances and have several performances.
