Midwood High School celebrates a long tradition of academic excellence. Our school has been nationally ranked as one of the best schools in New York City by the New York Post, Newsweek and The Washington Post. Our school consists of three institutes. Placement in our Medical Science and Humanities Institutes is highly competitive and dependent upon strong academic performance. Our school currently offers 21 different Advanced Placement courses. The Liberal Arts & Science Institute serves students who reside in the geographical catchment area. These students are selected for one of three programs: LASI Honors Academy, College and Careers, or College Support. These programs provide students with rigorous college and career-based instruction.

Midwood High School offers a diverse set of art electives for our students. In 9th grade, students are able to choose from taking: Art-Introduction to Drawing, Music: Chorus, Music: Music Appreciation or Music: Intro Band. Students who wish to pursue art classes beyond 9th grade can continue in Music: Chorus - Advanced Chorus, Music: Chorus: NYSSMA Chorus, Music: Band- Symphonic, Music: Band - Wind Ensemble. Additionally, we offer a Media Arts CTE program. This is a three year track that students can select, starting in grade 10. In this program, students will take the following classes: Video Production 1 & 2, Graphic Design 1 & 2, and Media Technology 1 & 2. In this program, students will learn the fundamentals of video recording and producing, as well as get accreditation in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere.
