The Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice (SLJ) offers a challenging academic program with an emphasis on law and justice. We offer a nationally recognized college and career readiness curriculum. Through integrated partnerships, supportive relationships, and rigorous coursework, students develop strong communication skills and an understanding of the role law plays in society. SLJ students participate in the democratic process through Student Council, Town Hall meetings, and Youth Court. SLJ graduates are strong readers and writers who think critically, work cooperatively, and question constantly. Families and community members stay involved through an open door policy, frequent home contact by advisors, and monthly family events.

At Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice (SLJ), we believe that a rigorous education includes the arts. Through a variety of arts experiences and partnership opportunities, we make the arts a powerful partner in learning. In 10th and 12th grade, students are exposed to a variety of arts through connections made in content classes and outside arts partnerships. In 9th and 11th grade, students are given exposure to over 20 arts providers for afterschool and enrichment opportunities. Approximately fifty students from the school participate in off-site enrichment programming in the arts.

Law and justice are the lenses through which subject matter is viewed and academic skills are developed. Our theme reflects our conviction that educating is in itself an act of social justice, and that learning can be amplified when done through the lens of the law.
