West Bronx Academy is an urban community committed to accelerating student learning in a supportive environment with a focus on critical thinking. High school courses are offered to students in the eighth grade and college-level courses are offered to high school students. Through the use of restorative practices, all members of the school community share the responsibility of building and sustaining a positive school environment. We offer exploratory field trips throughout NYC and beyond, we partner with community organizations to bridge the gap between school and community.

Art

Our school strives to offer a flexible and sequential Arts program for our middle through high school students. Students in grade six begin an introduction to Arts programming through our partnering afterschool organization, ACDP. Starting in 7th grade, students begin a sequence of Visual Arts and Music classes. In 9th grade this sequence continues, where students choose to focus on one strand of Arts classes. As students continue through grade 10-12, they continue to choose the Arts track of their choice with the option to switch between years. The Visual Arts sequence culminates with AP 2D-Design, while students have the opportunity to take Band classes as they advance in the Music sequence.
