Our school is dedicated to providing challenging academic standards in professional health career settings through our academic program, which prepares our students to enter the world of health care with scientific knowledge, ethics, integrity, and compassion. Our students are provided with a well-rounded high school experience including extracurricular activities, opportunities to enter science-related competitions, and an extensive sports program. Advanced Placement (AP) courses, as well as an array of electives, provide enrichment in all subject areas. Students have the opportunity to complete a three-year internship program that exposes them to health careers and related services fields.

Art

Visual art and music are offered to all students in compliance with New York State graduation requirements. The visual arts program includes studio art and art history, with an introduction to artists and artwork from a global perspective. Students experience creativity through an understanding and exploration of the elements of art and principles of design, with culminating exhibitions. The music program offers students a hands-on experience of music creation: making beats, sampling, writing melodies and chord progression, and song construction. Students also learn the different genres of music and the history of American musical forms. Programs are aligned with New York State Learning Standards for The Arts and the New York City Department of Education Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. Our staff is committed to offering students a variety of experiences in the arts, including off-site visits to museums, cultural events, and performances throughout the year. Student and staff theater productions and musical events are developed and produced in-house during the school year. Also offered is Stage Craft, a theater elective class, where students collaborate on multiple-devised performances and presentations. College level visual arts and music courses are offered for college credit through La Guardia Community College and College Board programs, both offered on the High School for Health Professions & Human Services campus.

A 3-year program offered starting in 10th grade in partnership with Syracuse University, focusing on scientific research under the mentorship of professionals at partner facilities, internships, and preparation for Intel Expo. Students can earn up to 12 college credits.
