Known for a longstanding tradition of academic achievement, our mission is to design, operate, and implement classes and programs that prepare all of our students for success in college, career, and beyond. Art

Students are accepted into the Benjamin N Cardozo High School Dance Program through an audition process that assesses overall skill and potential, dynamic projection, and academic GPA. At auditions students will be given a warm-up and taught a combination in Ballet, Modern, and/or Jazz. Students will also be required to perform a prepared solo, 1 minute in length, in either Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, African, or another codified style that exemplifies their technique. We ask that students do not perform a hip-hop routine. Students accepted into the dance program will take one period of dance a day in the place of their Physical Education credit. If students are accepted into the Performing or Apprentice class, they will meet for two periods a day, and one of those periods will count as an elective credit and be averaged into their overall GPA. Department goals are that upon completion of 4 years in the Cardozo dance program our students will: Understand their bodies as individual instruments for their art (physically, anatomically, creatively, and emotionally) Demonstrate agility and strength in the safe execution of dynamic movement Have discovered their own voice as creative artists Have developed an appreciation for dance as an art form with a respected history Be prepared for a collegiate level dance program
