We provide a warm setting with a strong emphasis on growth. Our school allows for students to have multiple opportunities to master course work and has had remarkable success. We have a robust Art, Music, Dance, and World Language sequence. We currently offer 7 Advanced Placement courses and will be adding an 8th in 2021. We have a school based SYEP program allowing our students opportunities for summer employment. Many CHAH students also leave campus in their senior year for internships and college courses. We have a wide variety of sports teams and extracurricular activities. Art
Community Health Academy of the Heights (CHAH) promotes college and career readiness for our students. The arts are an important key component to the growth and trajectory of the grade six through twelve students that we serve. Students in our middle school are exposed to each creative discipline we offer: dance, music and visual arts. After their rotation in each, students choose a specialty, such as dance performance, dance concepts, band, chorus, music appreciation and studio art, exploring a variety of media and techniques. Students also have an opportunity to take AP Studio Art in high school, creating a portfolio to gain college credit. CHAH has invested in a dance studio, fully equipped state of the art music rooms and visual arts studios. Students have full access to imaging, audio and digital mesa software on various platforms. Students have had their work showcased in venues all across New York City, including museums, and other cultural institutions. Most importantly, CHAH has three full-time creative arts teachers who embody the soul of our creative arts programs by working with community institutions to bring the arts alive for our students. Our community strongly believes in a well-rounded student that can speak to all the arts, and can demonstrate their mastery in public performances and exhibitions. We strongly believe in the arts being a shared public experience and are fostering not only future artists but lifelong lovers and patrons of the arts.
