About

The High School of Hospitality Management (HSHM) is located in the heart of the resurgent Clinton area of Manhattan, which has the highest concentration of hotel and hospitality establishments in New York City. HSHM delivers a holistic high school experience with an engaging academic curriculum, strong focus on personal development with extensive opportunities for career exploration. With the support of multiple industry leaders, students have an opportunity to achieve professional certificates. We are part of the Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA) pilot, which helps us support career readiness for all our students. We have courses that help our ninth and tenth graders explore their career interests and develop readiness skills. Our students can apply for apprenticeships in tech, finance, and business, which allows them to earn and learn while in high school.

Art
This year, all ninth graders took Studio Art 1 for one credit, and all our tenth and eleventh grade students took Studio Art 2 to earn their second required art credit. These classes all meet twice a week in the fall and three times a week in the spring semester, or vice versa, in order to meet the required number of instructional hours for credit. The courses are designed to meet the required benchmarks and performance indicators of the New York City Department of Education Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. This year we resumed offering AP Studio Art in 2-D Design and Drawing to eleventh and twelfth grade students who had taken and passed Studio Art 1 and 2; those students each created and submitted a portfolio to the College Board. Next year, we plan to continue offering these three visual arts courses. Drama is another elective that was offered this year, and students in grades ten through twelve were eligible to take it. We regularly assist our students with applications to various arts programs throughout New York City, including the Parsons Scholars Program, MoMA Teens, the Whitney Youth Insights and the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Teen Night programs.
