About

Formerly the Academy for Environmental Leadership, we are a nurturing learning community that drives our students to excellence and teaches them how to be responsible leaders. We define a LEADER as Loving, Empowered, Altruistic, Driven, Enthusiastic, and a Role Model. Every student is a leader that is held to the highest standard and has constant opportunities for intellectual engagement. As we prepare our leaders for the world beyond high school, our students are empowered to take on leadership roles via partnerships with programs that focus on the arts, socio-emotional growth, career development and college readiness. Our instruction is student-centered, and students work with one another on relevant, real-world topics, using technology.

Art
Students at the Academy for Excellence in Leadership were provided with a comprehensive foundational studio visual arts class during their sophomore year. This studio art class introduced a range of media used in visual art and taught students how to create, respond, interpret, and connect to their art and the visual art around us. This foundational art class is followed by three visual arts options of AP 2-D visual arts, arts and visual culture and creative expression classes, where we take these foundations and dive deeper into creating portfolios, and helping students understand how art can be used in their lives and how visual art affects the world around us.
