About

The Young Women's Leadership of Brooklyn empowers young women to become confident and compassionate leaders. We nurture the intellectual curiosity of the whole girl to maximize her academic achievement, socio-emotional well-being, and post-secondary success. Part of a network of Young Women's Leadership Network (YWLN) schools, we are an all-girls school with a mission to prepare young women to be successful leaders in their communities. Every YWLN school is supported by the CollegeBound Initiative (CBI) which ensures college access and financial aid options for every student. We work with parents as partners in preparing every student for post-secondary opportunities. Our students graduate from college at a rate 3x higher than their peers and go on to successful careers! TYWLS strives to instill in students a sense of self-efficacy and community responsibility, characteristics which will support them as they become the leaders of the next generation.

We offer full music and dance programs, serving grades 6 through 12. Our music classes provide instruction in guitar, keyboard, bass, drums, and vocals, with guitar as its main focus. There are three levels of guitar classes (Intro to Guitar, Advanced Guitar, and Guitar Ensemble). All students take Intro to Guitar, and then have the option to continue through the program. Our music classroom has an abundance of instruments, and students have the option to borrow school instruments for at-home practice. We also have a built-in recording studio within the music classroom. For our dance program, we have a dedicated dance studio. Like the music classes, all students take dance, and then have the option to move through more advanced dance classes. Students study various forms of dance, including jazz, ballet, Hip-Hop, tap, and more. Both music and dance programs are partners with Exploring the Arts and receive teaching artists throughout the school year. Furthermore, both programs offer extracurricular clubs during the school day and after school (Dance Ensemble, Rock Band Club, Drumming Club, etc.). Our arts programs culminate in a big end-of-year showcase called "The Night Of The Arts."
