About

Liberty High School Academy for Newcomers (LHS) is a small transfer high school serving new immigrant students or students that still require English acquisition in grades 9 through 12. Liberty offers a stand alone English program only. Our school community is dedicated to educating students from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds while celebrating our diversity. Liberty High School works with our Community Based Organization to offer students unique opportunities around New York City. This includes Learn to Work opportunities, college visits, career fairs, and recreational activities when school is closed. LHS is part of AP4ALL and CS4ALL. Art
Liberty High School Academy for Newcomers supports arts learning as vehicles of expression, discovery, and innovation. We are dedicated to teaching art education to our English as a New Language (ENL) population; students of diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. Students have the opportunity to be introduced to the visual, theatrical, and musical arts, to explore and empower already seeded talents through art displays, participation in citywide and school-wide art contests; creating videos; writing and performing theater, and designing in visual arts. Hence, students engage in rigorous class-content tasks that celebrate the diversification of cultural diversity, historical arts, and tales of human history. At Liberty, we work for the full potential of students as we dually enhance their English language acquisition through self-reflection, peer interaction, and written engagements. In addition, this school year we included a Collaborative Arts Class in the fall and spring semesters culminating in a multi-disciplinary project using visual, music, theater, poetry, and guitar.
