The Institute for Health Professions at Cambria Heights is a New York Performance Standards Consortium school that prepares students for college and career through a challenging and rich curriculum. Students take their learning beyond the classroom by collaboratively solving problems and completing labs based on the realities of emergency medicine, nursing and hospital care. Selected students participate in training exercises at Northwell Health's Center for Learning and Innovation, complete rotations on an ambulance or in a long-term care facility, and earn CTE certification in Emergency Medical Services. Selected students participate in a rigorous Pre-Nursing Program that includes hands-on skill labs and supervised field experiences.

Art
The Institute for Health Professions at Cambria Heights offers both visual arts and music courses. In visual arts, students examine both health and social issues from current events to create works to bring awareness of these issues to the attention of the public. Through real world applicable projects, we create videos, comics, brochures, board games, and street art along with classical artistic skills such as drawing from observation. In Music, our students examine the fundamentals of Music Theory while relating them to their favorite songs. Utilizing these skills, students embark on learning how to play the piano while composing their own original songs. The Institute offers avenues for the study of art through our English, Science, Social Studies and Mathematics classes at each grade level through our interdisciplinary approach. From using Art and Engineering to craft their own designed objects in Physics to building representation of bridges in Geometry, students are exposed to a variety of art forms. Artistic expression is also available to students through a variety of clubs, including Art, Photography, a K-Pop dance class, a Dance team, and a Step team

Health Professions

In addition to four years of English, social studies, mathematics, and science, students may be selected into the highly competitive EMT-B or Pre-Nursing courses. To earn NYS EMT-B certification, students must pass all of their required classes, the NYS Health Occupations Core Curriculum, and the EMT-B exam to be certified. For EMT-B only, students must be 18 by May of their senior year to be eligible.
