About

We provide a challenging academic program to students of diverse backgrounds, achievement levels, and interests in a small, student-centered learning community. As a Community School, we partner with community-based organizations to help our students physically, mentally and academically. Our students participate in scientific research, web-based communication and problem-solving projects. We help each child become college ready through rigorous coursework, SUNY Albany University in the High School program, Advanced Placement (AP) classes and CUNY College Now courses. Our students also have the opportunity to take CTE classes in Cisco Networking, Digital Media Marketing, and Computer Science. Our goal is for each student to acquire the ability to access, interpret, and use information and technology to meet the challenges in this ever-changing world.

Art
Studio Art Class - offered as a first year art class, this course allows students to explore artistic creation through a variety to artmaking materials and techniques. During the class students will create and experiment with the following materials: papermaking, origami, dreamcatchers, drawing with graphite/colored pencil/ charcoal, mixed media, pastels, oil pastels, clay, photography, wood working, painting, and digital art. Advanced Art - this course is offered to students who have completed the Studio Art course and want more art. The class focuses primarily on advanced drawing and painting techniques and artmaking, however there is an openness to the course that allows students to explore the types of art they'd like to create. The QIRT Music Department offers many opportunities for students to explore and develop their sense of musicality and creativity. Most students start in the Beginner Piano course, where they learn basic foundations of music. In the Digital Production and songwriting class, students learn the fundamentals of pop song writing and use modern recording software and techniques to create original works. Students who are interested in performance can join the Modern Ensemble, were they learn how to perform on any of the band instruments, learning arrangements of popular music and culminating in a schoolwide showcase of their talents.

Program emphasis is on math and science, using computer applications associated with inspection, repair, assembly, and troubleshooting. Student will receive training in IC3, Adobe, C++, and various multi-media programs.
