John Bowne High School is proud of our Bowne Visual Arts Institute. Students can apply to this program as an ed-opt. Students in this institute can select a sequence in either the two-dimensional track or three-dimensional track. Courses in the 3D track include: Studio Art, 3D Design & Sculpture, and Pre-A.P. Visual Art. Courses in the 2D track include: Studio Art, Drawing and Painting, and Pre-AP visual arts. Advanced Placement Art and Design, Portfolio & Art History are included in the senior year in both tracks. These visual arts sequences will culminate in the NYC Department of Education commencement exam in the visual arts and successful completion of the sequence will result in a Chancellor's Endorsed Diploma in the Arts. John Bowne offers a music major with a concentration in chorus, band, and orchestra. Each concentration includes a junior and concert level course. Additional music courses include Music Experience, Piano, Guitar, and Percussion. John Bowne also offers an Academy for Creative Actors and Writers program. Our goal is to provide an enriched artistry program through a sequence of highly varied writing and performance courses both in person and remotely. Through writing, workshopping, performances and literary experiences, students will be prepared for the rigors of professional work in both the writing and dramatic arts arenas, as well as in college and beyond.
