At New Utrecht HS, we nurture emerging artists through thematic projects combining observation with creativity, exposing them to artists & gaining insights from various races and gender identities. Art Majors earn 10 sequential arts credits, qualifying them for the Visual Arts Commencement Exam and the chance to receive a Chancellor's Arts endorsed diploma. In 2024, 100% of our art majors who applied were accepted into top Art Schools in NYC. This incredible achievement reflects the skills and dedication our students develop with us. We expanded our curriculum to include AP Art History and College Now (Film: The Creative Medium), setting them up for college success. Our textile course participates in meaningful charity events like Beanies for Babies, donating handmade hats to newborns in hospitals. Our photography classes use state-of-the-art digital cameras, sparking creativity and innovation. Wacom tablets take digital art to new heights and culminate in our annual Ute-icon festival. This three-day event celebrates our students' passion for anime, featuring guest speakers and engaging activities like trivia games. Through field trips, specialty pre-college visual arts programs at institutions like Pratt, FIT, and SVA, and participation in competitions that lead to scholarships, awards, and paid internships, we aim to increase our visibility and attract more junior high applications to our Academy of Art & Design. We're immensely proud of our achievements and remain committed to fostering a growing appreciation of the arts.
