Cypress Hills Collegiate Preparatory School (CHCP) is a community school where students are known as individuals and receive a rigorous education based on high-expectations, inquiry, and reflection. CHCP offers the Diploma Programme as an accredited International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. College readiness begins in ninth grade summer bridge and continues with a well-structured academically rigorous curriculum that incorporates individual college counseling. Art
For the 2023-2024 school year at Cypress Hills Collegiate Prep, students were introduced to the elements of the visual arts and principles of design. The visual arts program was based on mixed media arts. Students worked hands-on in expressing their own creative ideas in various visual arts materials. Emphasis was placed on the development of creative skills and awareness of aesthetic choices in the visual arts. The main goal of this course was to expose students to famous artists while developing their technical skills and familiarizing them with the functions of the visual arts elements. Students in mixed media visual arts had the opportunity to work with a wide array of media throughout the semester. Students utilized graphite, charcoal, pastel, colored pencil, ink, watercolor, acrylic paint and digital art on a variety of different grounds/surfaces including paper and canvas. This year, we also added IB Film to our classes. We also added a theater class, which was taught by one of our long term substitutes. He was assisted by CUNY CAT one day a week in these courses.
