About

We believe in diversity, inclusivity and community! Every student is programmed for an Advanced Regents Diploma, AP courses and can have the opportunity to work with partner colleges St. Francis College, University of Albany and Brooklyn College. Small learning communities and Advisory ensure every student is well known. We partner with Industry City, CFL, and other organizations for cutting edge internships in STEAM. We communicate with parents using online grading and communication systems. We provide workshops for families on college and high expectations. 12th grade students rehearse for college and professional life through College Now and Internship. Art
Students take a three-year, six-credit sequence in the arts that includes visual arts, dance, instrumental music and multi-media art. Students switch teachers at the end of the each semester to have a greater appreciation for the multidisciplinary array of the arts that our teachers offer. Ninth graders spend one semester taking 2-D art, which includes drawing, painting, and print-making, and one semester of 3-D design which includes clay and mixed materials. Tenth graders take one semester of dance and one semester of music. Eleventh graders take one semester of digital arts which includes animation and photo-editing and one semester of craft arts where they create usable objects out of textiles and learn how to sew. We offer a variety of elective arts classes that students take three times a week, including advanced music, advanced painting, ceramics (complete with a kiln and wheels), graphic design, comic book arts, ballet, and more. Students in the afterschool programs can audition for visual arts, dance, choral and theater troupes. Students can also join one of the many arts clubs we offer such as Makers Club (woodworking, 3D printing), filmmaking with local professionals, and photography club led by our librarian. We also offer many STEAM-related activities that involve arts in an interdisciplinary context. Our community partner Center for Family Life offers immersive workshops in art, music, dance, and theater, which culminate in a student-led theater production at the end of May.
