The Frederick Douglass Academy is a screened college preparatory school located in north Harlem. We are tremendously successful at sending students to top colleges throughout the country. High expectations and a challenging, rigorous curriculum are at the core of our mission; to equip students with the necessary tools and skills to become standouts in college and beyond. In our competitive school environment, each student is given an opportunity to select and attend one of our two academies within our school based on their individual interests.

The Frederick Douglass Academy (FDA) Arts program provides students authentic experiences in the arts. We provide our students with multiple platforms and events to share their creations with one another, the FDA school community and the larger Harlem cultural landscape. This year, our Harlem Samba program performed at The Apollo, Symphony Spaces, and with internationally renowned Bateria Furiosa, Guilherme Oliveira and Gustavo Oliveira of Salgueiro. https://vimeo.com/948535679 FDA offers a specialized program in music for incoming 9th graders: https://vimeo.com/955609267 "Hello FDA", our student digital broadcasting production, featured the FDNY and shot live on location from Brooklyn for the NYC Youth Summit https://vimeo.com/917775806 Our FDA Visual arts students are exposed to a wide array of media and techniques in our digital media and art studios. In collaboration with classroom teachers, program faculty enrich content area topics with the visual, dance and musical arts. World Language(M75E)

FDA World Language Program offers students accepted to the program the opportunity to master two of the following languages: Japanese, Italian, French and Spanish. Beginning in their freshman year, students will choose two beginning language courses and continue until graduation upon completion of the AP Foreign Language Exam.
