Vanguard High School offers a challenging college preparatory program in a close-knit and nurturing environment. Access to technology, arts, extracurricular activities, and travel opportunities through our partnerships enable our students to develop as analytical, articulate, and reflective citizens who care about and engage with the world around them to make positive change. We support our students in pursuing internships and connect them to mentors, opportunities, and programs and start yearly college exploration in 9th grade. This year we provided a wealth of art programming that included: visual art, music, music production, and dance. The community participated in a number of student driven art & performance events: An Art & Healing village, talent shows, A Food Justice art installation called the Vanguard Bodega, a Zine Fair and monthly Open Mic nights in which staff & students shared their talents. Additionally students are participating in art programs with various organizations across the city.

Students' growth in understanding and thinking is assessed by researching, writing, presenting, and defending portfolios in math, science, history and literary analysis and working on in-depth projects. Students also complete an autobiography portfolio, using oral and visual components.
