Art
Maxwell CTE High School boasts a Career and Technical Education curriculum aligned with college and career readiness. Currently, our student must satisfy two credits in the arts. We have a full-time teacher of visual arts, who teaches art history and visual arts to all 9th grade students. We also have a full-time teacher of graphic communication media who teaches 10th and 11th grade students whose CTE Major is communications media. These two programs currently serve to cover visual arts for our students. Other arts education opportunities have been provided in theater by teachers in our English department collaborating with Broadway Theater Company to provide theater workshops for teachers and students who also attend Broadway shows: Hamilton and And Juliet, this year. Our students were also provided extracurricular opportunities in the arts after school. Dance, music, and chorus were taught and advised by staff who possess abilities in these arts disciplines. We also received funding form NYCDOE Project PIVOT and hired The Arts Empowerment Group to provide dance instruction in after school andSaturday School in Salsa, Hip Hop and Jazz Dance. We will continue to collaborate with Broadway Theater Company and look for another Art Organization to provide music and dance this year. We plan to provide professional development to our teachers in order to integrate arts instruction across curricula areas.
