This is a dynamic institution that provides high-quality programs that emphasize Civil Rights issues and Law. We prepare students for careers in law and legal field, social sciences, and public policy and advocacy. Students develop skills in lyrical composition, writing, legal research, simulated court proceedings, and paralegal studies. Students compete in Moot Court competitions, and serve as judges, attorneys, jurors, bailiffs, and clerks in the Academy's Youth Court. A courtroom is available for mock trials and law-related classes. Whether your plans are to enroll in a four-year university or a law enforcement or legal training program, the High School for Civil Rights provides students with the academic background and workplace exposure needed for success. AP courses, College Now, Student Service Programs, Public Speaking, NAACP, Honor Roll Society, Drivers Ed and Notary Public License training, PSAL sports are also offered.

Art

The visual arts program for this current year was filled with projects and activities that boosted critical thinking habits. Collaborative learning, creative and communication skills were developed as well. Students were able to express views, thoughts and feelings on various topics via the visual arts. Students analyzed masterworks of visual art and learned how to interpret the meaning and intent of works of visual art.

Law & Government

This program is designed to introduce students to social justice issues and assist them in discovering their ability to create positive change in their own world and community. Students will critically analyze various social movements that happens globally and locally. Students will also explore and discuss how civic engagement influence human understanding, relationships, and behavior for centuries. Students will understand how individuals operate within community contexts created through interactions and relationships structured by sociability, belonging, and responsibility.
