Richard R. Green High School of Teaching (RRGHST) offers an introductory visual arts course, Studio Art 1: an exploration of art media to develop imagination, self-expression, and art as a form of communication. Aligned with the Common Core Standards and the New York City Department of Education Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, this course focuses on team building skills, critical thinking, complex problem solving, writing, self-confidence, literacy, decision-making, and school achievement. This course supports intellectual and educational development along with personal and social development. Students have the opportunity to participate in schoolwide art exhibitions. An advanced Studio Art 2 class was added to our course offerings. Our art history electives include a minimum of one monthly trip to local museums. AP Art History is open to all students, including freshmen who commit to museum visits and writing criteria.
